Moulding Part 1.

The pictures above show the process once the cast is off the face. The first steps are to add plaster to the mould, making sure you get the plaster up the sides and really make to mould strong and have a well balanced wall of hessian. Once set and solid, start to remove the jacket and alginate to leave you with the final head piece. My next step from here, is to tidy up my cast to make look smooth and more realistic.

The next part of the process is to tidy up the cast and make sure all air bubbles and excess plaster are taken away. This is done with sand paper, a hand sander and any tool that you find handy to remove plaster parts.

As you see in the pictures below the cast has been cleaned up and is ready for the next steps.

The next steps are to create a clay wall around the face cast to hold liquid when poured over the cast at a later stage. Firstly place the cast on a thick plastic board. To make sure the cast doesn't move around to easily, make even on the plastic by adding clay underneath the cast. Adding or taking away until just right. Once happy with the balance move onto the wall to hold the face.( see picture below.)

Apply clay around the face as seen here (Above) in the picture. Start to smooth over by pushing up and around the face until satisfied with the layer created.
(See below pictures for the final look on this stage)

Next it to add another clay wall around this, adding another wall around it is done so that we can apply key holes into the clay. This is so that when the silicone hits the cast with this wall created to support it, it will fill in the holes created to make the reverse of the insert. (which creates keys)

From this point the last wall is added. This time it is closer to the edge of the plastic board. (See picture below.)

This picture above shows the finished piece of the wall making/working with clay process.
It is now ready for the silicone to be added.

                                                              Making the Silicone.

This is done using the products shown below, ("1 part A" to "10 part B") Once measured mix thoroughly together to get a peachy pink colour. (See pictures below for clarification)

To help thicken up the silicone a thickening agent is added to the mixture created.

Once the mixture is the right thickness start to lather over the cast, making sure to get in the key holes created and an overall good thick layer is applied.

A couple of days later I had added another layer of silicone leaving this. (see picture below)

The next steps from here is to create a plaster jacket on this. The pictures below show this process.

Only apply half a jacket at one time, the other half needs to over lap the other half by 1cm.  ( Vaseline thoroughly to the section you are going to over lap)

Next set the two jacket halves to one side for now, take the silicone off of the cast wash it and dry. (Picture below show these steps.)

Once this is done and you are happy with it is clean, set up for moulding of the face once more. This is done by adding both halves of the jackets into a bowl faced down, and placing the silicone mould into this matching up the face features.

Measure up the plaster this is (3 cups of powder to 1 cup water.) Once mixed thoroughly apply a splash layer making sure to cover all areas. Once satisfied move onto the walls of the mould and getting a thick layer of plaster in the mould then add hessian for extra support.
